Another Month another Transport Hub

Well into a 2 week build we are about to go live after managing the installation of overlay on the next prestigious athletics event in the sporting calendar, the London 2012 Paralympics Games.

Here at Eaton Dorney rowing lake we are expecting 10,000 spectators to arrive on busses and coaches, by foot, bicycle and taxi using different entrances at different times with different requirements. Particularly spectators who require heavy motorized wheelchair access. We have installed ramps and heavy duty rubber mats to give driving wheels good purchase on wet ground and to smooth the journey through to the pedestrian screening area.

On the BBC news this morning a lady in a motorized wheelchair was saying how she was not going to go to watch any of the live events because of past poor public transport experiences. If only she was aware of how many people have been going the extra mile to make sure that the Paralympic games are a great experience for one and all maybe she would have joined in with the crowd attending the rowing event at Eaton Dorney for definite.

Of course this is not a 9 to five project and we have been working all sorts of hours to deliver a working system within the timescale set. One benefit is you do get to see the odd sun set or sun rise out in the open. I am not quite sure what the wildlife thinks about this scale of temporary structure filling an otherwise wide open field usually grazed by sheep.

Another month and the field will be empty again.
