3D or not 3D

Interesting demonstration by Stevie Warne at Blue i of soft edge 3D and 2D graphics at their base in Hemel Hempstead. Some people look at 3D as a gimmick, but there was no escaping the fact that the 3D subject appeared to float in front of the presentation screen which naturally drew your eye to the demonstration. It left me thinking it would be worth investing in the production of 3D footage for certain product launch applications.

My favourite quote of the month is from Brad Keselowski Nascar Sprint Cup Champion after winning the championship he was interviewed on a TV news channel, his quote was ‘Life is a team sport’ he was talking of his success and the support he had. I was thinking about work and the elements needed for a successful event.

I think for an event to be successful you need 3 elements to be drawn together as a team, like a three legged milking stool that requires all 3 legs to work. The customer with a clear vision, Suppliers delivering commitment and the Delegates who want to be engaged to benefit.

Attending a presentation by JLA with Lord Seb Coe I had the opportunity to talk with Seb after the event. We talked about the Transport Hub work I was involved with during the Olympic and Paralympic Games and without prompt he signed his autobiography ‘’Thank-you – Good luck’’

I found Seb engaging, the scale of the Olympic’s and Paralympic’s project he managed on behalf of the country was incredible, a workforce doubling in size year on year, a 7 year program and a continuing program of legacy projects ahead for him and the management team of the organising committee. Awesome work.

A lasting memory I did come away with was his approach to colleagues. The Games was an extreme project, leaders were working at a stretched work rate because of their commitment to the project, Seb asked his leaders to think about those sitting next to them, ‘be kind to them’ …. help them and be understanding of their pressure. Kindness is a word seldom heard in the world of business – from my own perspective, ‘what does kindness cost?’  Time I guess, maybe a modicum of empathy, but giving staff and colleagues kindness can progress any project for the benefit of all. Worth remembering.

We are treating ourselves in the beginning of December, taking time out from the 1st of December to the 13th of December, our work throughout the whole of the summer period pushed back one of our our annual battery charge ups and our time for rest and re group is almost here. I look forward to catching up with one and all after our company break, before we know it we shall be well into Christmas
